Canadian English language Proficiency Index Program test is an English language test for permanent residency in Canada, and Canadian citizenship and is also accepted for professional designations. It measures listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. This test uses easy-to-understand English and vocabulary taken from everyday situations. The test is administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises. It takes 3-hours to complete the test and is done in just one sitting and includes features such as a personal timer, word counter, and spell-check.

Format of CELPIP

The test is completely computer-based and consists of four section - Listening, reading, writing and speaking. The total length of all four sections is 180 minutes. The entire test is completed in one sitting with no separate speaking session. The Listening and Reading Tests contain unscored items used for test development and have the same format as the scored items.  CELPIP test scores have been aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Levels 3 to 12.  

Section 1: Listening; 47-55 minutes 

Section 2: Reading; 55-60 minutes

Section 3: Writing; 53-60 minutes

Section 4: Speaking; 15-20 minutes 

Course details
